So maybe we should order Rebecca and an Obama book first!

I've heard that Seamus Heaney said of Obama that 'at last there's a poet in the White House' and I certainly have Obama on my list to read! I seem to be in the mood for depressing not uplifting at the moment though, for some reason, having just 'enjoyed' Sebastian Barry's 'It's a Long Long Way', all about WW1. If you need a good cry there's your book. Rebecca's good for a laugh though, especially if you read it with the Laurence Olivier film in mind!! Brilliant stuff...

In response to:A very short discussion of Silas Marner

I'm making slow progress with I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, but enough I think to be able to come along on Tuesday. I haven't read any on the list in your initial post Liz, and am happy to give any a go. I am least likely to chose Rebecca or the Obama books for myself - so does that make them a better option for BIA to encourage me to read things outside my usual choices. Similarly I recently decided to tackle the Sunday papers in a fashion I would not normally do - chosing different sections and in a different order to normal. I gave my husband the task of proposing what I would read and hence I enjoyed InGear and read all about a new Porshe model. It was rather good and I have never even opened that section before.
I have been carrying your slings in to Leominster regularly Kathy, to Bounce and Rhyme, and I called round at yours too (easter hols - no one in!). I'll aim to bring them on Tuesday...and won't it be the one time I forget!
The Tiger Who Came to Tea sounds good, Kathy, I'd be willing to go on the Wednesday, always assuming I haven't given birth by then!! Anyone fancy coming with us? I read the book list a few weeks ago and there were a few that sounded promising but now I've forgotten what was there so I'll have to look again.
I'm enjoying 'I know why the caged bird sings'. It took me a while to get into it but I'm there now!

In response to:The Road Home

Gill, Thought for a moment you had put 'we're afraid we can't go on holiday'! Glad you are still going/ have gone and hope you manage the wrap ok. All the best for the operation.
Will try and negotiate so that David has the big boys so I can come to April's group.

In response to:The Road Home

Gill, Thought for a moment you had put 'we're afraid we can't go on holiday'!
We've heard today that Anna is to have her operation on April 7th so I'm afraid we won't be able to make the next meeting. However, Silas M is packed in my suitcase (off on hols) and he will be read anyway.
Kathy...I know it's off subject again, but I have had a few goes with the wrap by myself and it's going OK I think. Have only walked round the garden with it on so far!
